Always a solid choice

This was my third time using Varsity Tutors, this time for some college level math tutoring. Just like with the previous chemistry and physics sessions, they were consistent. The tutor was knowledgeable, and the platform worked without any hiccups. I keep coming back because I know what to expect.

Got my kid some help

My son was struggling with algebra so I looked into some online tutoring. Varsity Tutors popped up and I just gave it a shot. The process was easy enough. Got him set up with a tutor pretty quickly, and he actually understood the stuff after a few sessions. It was a good experience overall.

Good value, minor glitch

I signed up for LSAT test prep and the initial matching process was pretty smooth. I liked being able to review tutor profiles before committing. My tutor was fantastic, really helped break down difficult concepts. The online learning platform itself was intuitive, but one time a session disconnected briefly, which was a bit annoying. Customer support was quick to respond when I contacted them about managing my hours balance later, which was a plus. Delivery of the service, being online, was instant after booking. For the price, I felt it was a good investment in my score.

Mostly positive experience

I used Varsity Tutors for GMAT prep and found the one-on-one sessions very beneficial. The tutor was highly experienced and tailored the lessons well. The matching process was efficient, and I appreciated the flexibility in scheduling. The only minor downside was that sometimes it took a full day to get a response from customer service when I had a question about rescheduling, which could be inconvenient if you needed a quick answer. Overall, the quality of tutoring was high, and I feel I got good value for the investment.

Such a lifesaver!

I needed help with my biology class, and Varsity Tutors was absolutely amazing! My tutor explained everything so clearly, and I actually started understanding the material. My grades really improved, and I felt so much more confident. I will definitely be using them again for my next tough class!

Is Varsity Tutors legit or should I just stick with Khan Academy for math help? Need something for calculus.

E Elizabeth T. 1 month ago
Totally legit. It's way more personalized than Khan Academy, which is good for general stuff but not 1-on-1 feedback.

I used them for physics and it made a huge difference. Tutors are background checked and pretty knowledgeable. It's not a scam if that's what you're asking.

Does Varsity Tutors have sales often, or should I just buy hours now for my daughter's calculus?

A Adam D. 3 weeks ago
They have sales around seasonal stuff, like back to school or summer learning. And sometimes around test dates for SAT/ACT. If you're not in a rush, maybe wait a bit.

I usually see something pop up during finals week or New Year's. Could be worth holding out if you can.

Are their group classes any good for something like GMAT prep, or is 1-on-1 the only way to go?

M Megan Thomas 1 month ago
Group classes can be good for GMAT if you like learning with others and the competitive aspect. But for really specific weaknesses, 1-on-1 is probably better.

I did a group class for the GRE and it was decent for getting the general strategy down. They sometimes have discounts on those too.

How do they match you with a tutor? Can I ask for someone with specific experience?

O Olivia F. 2 weeks ago
They have you fill out a form about what you need help with and your learning style. You can definitely mention specific things you're looking for. They try to find a good match.

Yeah, I asked for someone who was good with ADHD support and they found a tutor who specialized in that. It was pretty cool.

Got a coupon code from a friend. Where do you actually put it in when you're buying hours?

P Patricia 4 weeks ago
During checkout, there's usually a box for promo or coupon codes. Just look for that.

It's usually right before you finalize the payment details. Sometimes if it's a referral link, it applies automatically.

My kid needs help with algebra. What's the deal with changing tutors if the first one doesn't click?

A Alex D. 1 week ago
You can definitely change tutors. They want you to have a good fit so it's not a big deal to request a different one.

I switched my tutor after the second session, no questions asked. They just found me another one pretty quickly.

Thinking of signing up for ACT prep with them. Do they usually have a promo for new students or anything like that?

S Sam Garcia 2 weeks ago
Yeah, pretty sure I got a free consultation when I first checked them out. And then my first hour was like, heavily discounted.

O Olivia Lopez 2 weeks ago
They often do special offers, especially around test times or back-to-school. Keep an eye out or just ask during the free consult. Sometimes it's a percentage off bulk hours.

Anyone used them for college essay review? Was it helpful or just super generic advice?

Z Zach Campbell 1 month ago
My friend used them last year for their essay and got into their top choice. They said the tutor was really good and helped them refine their voice without changing it completely.

L Laura Moore 4 weeks ago
It really depends on the tutor you get, like with any tutoring service. But they let you switch if it's not a good fit, so you're not stuck with someone you don't vibe with.
